Hello, my name is Ritz and I am a very quiet and regal 12-year-old male Pit Bull mix who is one of those older gents who acts more like a youngen. My most favorite things include chewing on pretty much anything, barking at strangers outside and getting attention…like cuddles and head rubs.  My least favorite things include NOT getting attention or head rubs and I will definitely let you know how displeased I am at the lack of attention by poking you with my foot until attention resumes…you have been warned!!

I do well on the leash but luckily my foster mom has a safely fenced yard where I can play and enjoy the beautiful outdoors…boy, I really hope my new home has a fenced yard too!! I did meet a cat and I tried catching him so my foster mom says no cats allowed in my forever home. I am potty and crate trained but I will cry if you put me in the crate with the door closed.  Anyway, I am very smart, I even know the “come” “stay” and “go potty” commands and am amenable to learning more. I was recently on a medication regimen for heartworm and though I am now done with the treatment, I will still need to be on monthly preventative medications so I will need a loving family who will be able to keep me on the preventative meds because…believe me, heartworm is NOT fun, and I don’t ever want to have it again!!!

I am a super friendly and loving guy who is simply looking for love and security!! If you are a patient person or family who will love me unconditionally, keep me safe, will NOT give up on me and will keep me healthy with a monthly heartworm preventative. I will be here with my foster family waiting for my forever family - I really hope you hurry!!

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:

http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/

Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.

All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website

www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications

and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
