Description:
Animal Profile: Cruiser is an estimated 5-7 year old neutered male Shepherd Husky mix (best guess) weighing 45 lbs. Cruiser would do well with another non-dominant dog or as the only dog in the home. No cats or small animals please. He has excellent house manners, is quiet and crate trained. He loves to snuggle and hang out with his people, but also enjoys his independence at times. Respectful kids 10+ in the home would be okay.  Cruiser is still a work in progress, but eager to learn and please; he will be a wonderful and loyal companion for the right person. Foster Update/Training Notes: Cruiser has made great progress with his confidence and training. He will need someone with a gentle hand. He needs a measured leader and calm environment to thrive. He is food motivate and loves treats. He loves to learn and work -- tackling agility or learning new tricks are great joys for him. Cruiser has been successfully integrated with many different dogs but he can become over stimulated with play so does require occasional reminders on appropriate "dogging". Cruiser should be matched with appropriate dogs, preferably a non-dominant or female dog, and would not do well with cats or small animals in the home. His leashed walks are a work in progress. With the right handler he can manage hikes and going around town, but fair and effective communication is key. Cruiser is capable of a lot, with a calm leader and structured environment.  Adopter Profile: Non dominant or female dogs okay No cats or small animals Kids 10+ okay Dog experience required Breed experience (Shepherd or Husky) preferred Able to provide structure and leadership Animal History: Cruiser was picked up as a stray in Houston in 2020 and ended up in a high kill TX shelter. He was rescued in October 2020 by Heart of the Underdog and in foster care he showed signs of physical and emotional abuse. He has been fostered by several professional trainers in rescue and is currently fostered in Bellevue WA available for adoption. * Courtesy Post* Adoption Info: Cruiser is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and has a clean bill of health. Adoption will include a take home training session and training plan. His adoption fee is $400 which may be tax deductible as Heart of the Underdog is a 50c3 organization. If you are interested in adopting Cruiser, the first step in the process is filling out an application. FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
