Description:
NEW INTAKE 7/13/2021:  Santorini - male - 2 years old - 13.10 pounds - Shih Tzu/ Yorkie Reason for intake:   Santorini came in with three other dogs from a situation we've helped in the past.   Originally, we took in 14 dogs from a family whose mother died.  She was a breeder and the family was overwhelmed trying to find a place for the dogs.   They ended up keeping a few... but have now found themselves in a situation where the rest needed to find placement.  They contacted us and we went to retrieve the rest.  All four are heading to the vet on 7/14/2021 for spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm/fecal testing, etc. If you pre-apply, keep in mind that we don't know his/her heartworm status yet.  If he/she is positive, we do the slow (gentle) kill method which will be further explained should the applicant be approved to adopt.  Also, it’s important to keep in mind that there may be other medical issues associated with this dog that may come out while at the vet.  IF THAT IS THE CASE, we will suspend taking applications and the pet will be removed as adoptable.  Once the pet is well enough, we will then relist the pet for adoption. More pics and a full write-up will be posted in the next few days, unless (s)he ends up with an approved adopter before we are able to update. Adoption fee $225, which includes vetting, microchipping and microchip enrollment fee.    To pre-apply, click here:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history,  along with an excellent vet reference need apply. **IMPORTANT NOTES**  *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.  *We do not guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.  *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
