Our gorgeous girl Emerald (or Emmie for short) is a 1.5-year-old staffy mix. She’s about 49 pounds, all fit into a petite (but strong!) little package and covered in velvety soft fur. Emmie is rambunctious, affectionate, curious, smart, goofy, and an absolute sweetheart — it’s no wonder she’s a volunteer favorite at Rocket Dog.

She can be quite high-energy, so she’ll need a home where she’ll get regular exercise and/or have a yard to play in. But we discovered recently when she spent some time at home with one of our volunteers that she is also very happy to relax and snuggle on the couch (or snooze in the car) between adventures. She loves people and warms up to them quickly. And she also loves playing in her little dog pool — we think she’d be very excited to try swimming some day!

We’ve successfully introduced Emmie to several other dogs at the sanctuary and she’s loved playing with them out in our rose garden. We think she’d do well in a home with a similarly sized dog to play with (after a slow introduction), but she’d probably also be happy as the only dog in the home as long as her people are active!

Emmie needs quite a bit of work on her leash manners, so it’s important that her adopters be committed to continuing her training. She would also LOVE A FOSTER HOME with someone who can work on her training. Currently, she is pretty reactive when walking on leash, which means that she’ll get over-excited when she sees another dog but isn’t able to go meet it. We believe this is likely due to excitement rather than aggression and could be overcome with training, but it’s going to be important that she goes home with a serious “dog person” who’s committed to helping her be the best pup she can be. If you’ve got love and patience to offer Emmie, you’ll get such a wonderful dog in return! To meet this beautiful girl, please fill out an application below and a volunteer will be in touch!

Rocket Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned animals from euthanasia in overcrowded Bay Area shelters. We literally give them a second chance at life. And everybody deserves a second chance.

Adopting a rescued animal is a lifetime commitment! Adopters must complete an agreement ( and a personal interview prior to adopting a Rocket Dog. There is a non-refundable adoption fee ($325 for adult dogs, $400 for puppies) which helps us defer the cost of spay/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
