Description:
Tia blew into New Jersey with a snowstorm in March. She came from a much warmer climate in the Bahamas where she was born underneath a car along with 6 other pups. Tia is now a beautiful one-year-old Tricolor Lab mix who weighs 50 pounds.

Tia is a sweet & calm dog but she is still getting adjusted to living in a house with other humans and dogs. Her first week was tough as she didnt want to leave her crate even for her walks so she had to be carried out the front door. Though she still needs a gentle pull to get her to come out of her crate, she will now walk out of her crate and out the front door for her walks.

Tia is gentle on a leash and no longer goes into flight mode all the time when faced with a fear as she did when first arriving in Jersey. She however will freeze, or try and pull you in the opposite direction or towards home. Most recently she has had to face some of her fears which include strangers and other dogs she doesnt live with by spending time out on the front porch while people and dogs pass. She tries to hide at first but adjusts quickly and gets into a more relaxed state which also makes for a great transition into the home.

Tia has her favorites in her foster home and she now even approaches them for touch. She is housebroken & has no food guarding issues. Her humans are able to pet her, clean her ears, bathe her and even walk her. Since she is still a puppy she likes to chew but is easily redirected away from the childrens toys. Chew toys are essential for her and she loves her bully sticks the most.

Tia is seeking a family that will help her feel comfortable to be part of their family but slowly, with time & patience. Due to her fear and tendency to enter flight mode she should be walked rather that free roam in a backyard as she has scaled a chain link fence already although backyard roaming on a long lead with adult supervision would be just fine.

If youd like to meet Tia now that she has arrived in the US, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for Chellas Tia!
