Description:
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someones. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. Well update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. Youll find it in the menu on the left hand side. Youll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. Well add you to our mailing list.

thanks

Special Needs? Kenda is spayed and up to date on all vaccines. Kenda has heartworms and was treated on 3/05/2021. The protocol we use is two-fold. We do a pre-treat people where the dog takes doxycycline (an antibiotic) for at least 30 days. During this time the dog is also on regular heartworm prevention. The drug doxycycline weakens the adult heartworms. We then used a drug called diroban (a generic immiticide) to kill the adult heartworms. The dogs are given 2 injections of diroban 24 hours apart. They are then under strict rest protocols for 5 weeks - mostly cage rest with limited leash walks each day. They go in for a follow-up vet visit after their resting period. Kenda has completed all follow-ups and is ready for her forever home. She must be on regular heartworm treatment for the rest of her life.
Weight: 61 lbs

What kind of home would be best for me? Kenda is a happy gal. She meets no strangers and also looks for the best in all the humans. A home that can get Kenda out and meet new people would be the world of fun. On the other hand, she needs someone that doesnt mind lounging about in the air conditioning and sharing snacks with her! Kenda loves a stroll at the park and to romp around the yard with a loud rubber chicken, but when shes winded thats all you get for a while.

Kendas current foster family has been working from home, so she has become accustomed to having them around almost constantly. She likes it that way, especially when it is storming outside. Storm cuddles are mandatory! Kenda does very well with the other four-legged foster siblings, they are both much smaller than she is, but having another pup is not mandatory. Supervised playdates will do Kenda just fine! Kenda needs basic training to continue once she is in her forever home. She does not care for boundaries and needs continued training and work on this.

What is my personality like? Kenda is a great big bubble of love, hugs, kisses and burps. She enjoys life as it is and she wont let any one stop her from smiling! Kenda does her best to follow all of the rules in her foster home and she is learning a few new ones. Kenda is highly motivated by positive recognition for her people. She sometimes forgets her size and behaves like a very small dog (trying to sit in your lap, ride in the seat, etc.). Foster mom is working with Kenda on this.

Kenda is great with children. Her foster home includes a young girl and Kenda makes sure her girl is protected when she goes outside. Her favorite past times include chasing squirrels and barking at any cars or trucks that are loud. The UPS man likes to race Kenda - a game that she thinks is super fun. She knows she will win one day if her humans would only let her out of the fence (we wont).

Kenda is not a dog that is well suited for the dog park yet. She can get testy with other dogs in public settings. Shes living happily with smaller dogs in her foster home without issue. We suspect that some of Kendas challenges in public settings such as the dog park may be guarding her humans. Kenda is very, very strong. When she wants something, she goes for it with her full heart. There is little holding her back.

Kenda bonds very strongly to her people. This does result in some guarding behaviors. This behavior is typically toward other dogs, not people. In her home. Kenda is great. In public settings, she is protective of her family if other dogs approach. She needs a strong owner that understands this and will continue the work her foster family has started with this.

How do I act when I first meet new people? For Kenda, new people are new friends. She will smother you in kisses.

Other tips and tidbits: Kenda was found as a stray. We have no history on her. We have estimated her birthday as 10/18/2014 based on her overall health and condition.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesnt keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
