In shelter Dog

Oakland, NJ, 07436
Pet name:
Khloe, an 11-year-old pug, was surrendered to RBARI last week in a neglected state so severe we didnt know if she would live. Her owner was in jail and the dogs were not being cared for properly. Khloe is blind and deaf and very thin from being underfed, as she was unable to fight for her food against the other dogs in the home. She has a severely injured and untreated eye, horrible ear infections, and nerve damage in her hind legs. Her white cell count was up, she is anemic and her protein was concerningly low, but since rescue Khloe has been eating well, dewormed, gaining weight and more stable. Her eye is uncomfortable, blind and cannot be saved, so Khloe has to undergo enucleation surgery to remove the eye. We were honestly afraid to share Khloes story with you, fearing we would break your heart as she may not make it from such severe neglect - but not only has she improved, but we have a wonderful update as she awaits surgery...

We were able to get Khloes companion from the home surrendered, and their reunion was so beautiful! They love each other, are totally adorable together and were thrilled to be reunited. Jaxs story is just as sad. He is 4-years-old and was hit by a car years ago and never provided medical care. He has an abnormality in his spine and no proprioception in one leg. Both Khloe and Jax walk abnormally due to their neglect, but both are fully mobile. Jax is likely fecal incontinent (he can control his urine) due to the accident and untreated injuries.

Please consider a donation towards Jax and Khloes medical care, and Khloes surgery, so that this adorable pair can finally be comfortable and cared for. Despite a lifetime of neglect, Jax and Khloe still see the best in us - they love and trust their humans. Please help us to affirm their pure trust with your gift today!

We would love to place Khloe and Jax as a special needs pair in a foster to adopt / adoptive home as soon as possible! Khloe is a sweet, loveable and snuggly senior girl. Jax is a little bit shy, but warms up fast. Both are great with other dogs! Please visit to apply, or email to find out more! Primary Color: Black Age: 11yrs 0mths 2wks Animal has been Spayed

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
