Description:
This is a courtesy post for Olivers owners. He is NOT an AAHA dog and we are merely trying to give him more exposure. Please contact us at adopt@aaha-rescue.org in order to get in touch with his owner.

Background: We adopted Oliver in February 2022 from Tru Rescue. He is currently 11 months old and 55 pounds. He is a blue heeler/lab mix according to the rescue. He had pictures of his parents and that mix looked correct. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all shots.

Personality: Oliver is very active and enjoys a good amount of exercise. However, he can be lazy and will sleep whenever there isnt excitement around him. He does not seek attention constantly and will lay in his bed while we do things around the house. He can at times be cuddly but not all the time. He tends to hangout in whatever room we are in and only occasionally will go hangout on his own. He is very loyal. Oliver loves to play. He is very treat motivated and will listen to any command if there is something to eat that he wants.

Likes: We run around in the backyard and he likes to wrestle as well. He wrestles only in a playful manner 100% of the time. He loves playing with all dogs at the dog park. He loves to wrestle with other dogs and gets so excited when he is around another dog with his energy level. Oliver will ONLY wrestle with other dogs in a playful manner as well. If another dog thinks he is being annoying with his playful manner and snaps at him, he will retreat and be submissive 100% of the time. He will never match the other dogs aggression. He loves the small doggie pool in the backyard and playing with his frisbee. He likes long walks but he really likes to run and be around other dogs. He loves chewing on a good bone and any time there is a treat in the area. He likes sleeping next to the fan for extra cooling. He likes day-care a lot as well. We have no problems with bringing him to day-care for any period of time. For some reason he LOVES the garbage truck and sits and watches it pass by every Monday morning on our walk. Not sure if he likes baths but we have had 0 problems giving him baths in our tub.

Dislikes: He does not like the swiffer or vacuum cleaner. He will not bark but just hide from it and give it a side-eye. He doesnt like lawn mowers and will simply go back inside if we start mowing the lawn. He doesnt like noises that he doesnt recognize and will bark if he hears something out of the ordinary. He is comfortable with the TV, music, people on speaker phone, but will bark if an alarm goes off that he has never heard before. He doesnt like passing other dogs on a walk and not being able to play with them. He will bark at them and try to go over and play.

Behavior: Oliver is very protective of us in our home. When someone comes to our house he will react in a fearful manner. This comes in the form of staying between the guest and us and constant loud barking. He has never lunged or bitten anyone. When we have people come to our house we will have to spend a lot of time outside getting acquainted with treats before anyone can enter the house. In some instances we have given him anti-anxiety medication to be able to have people over. Outside of our home he is very different. At the vet and at doggie day-care when we are not around, Oliver is fine being handled by other people. It is only in our home that he gets overprotective. Also, Oliver has shown, in limited exposure, to not be great around children. He was around our 8 month old nephew for an afternoon and would bark at him whenever he was near him. Nothing aggressive but the barking was constant. Other than that, Oliver is a good listener for the most part, he is housebroken and has basic obedience training. He is good on a leash and will not pull unless he sees a bunny or squirrel.
