Description:
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

1. Darton needs a fully fenced yard.
2. Children should be older.

3-month-old male Terrier/Heeler mix puppy, about 15 pounds.

Darton was born at the rescue on 10/13/21 to momma Dhalia (who is also available for adoption) Dalton is his brother.

Darton is very gentle natured. He loves snuggles and play with both dogs and humans alike. He will need everything a puppy needs; potty training, leash manners, obedience, and strong boundaries... the works. He is responding well to boundary training, though his curiosity is developing! He is testing the limits every day, so consistency is key.
Cattle dogs are a very intelligent breed, and Darton is a sharp little guy. He is also Terrier, which makes him potentially tenacious and driven. He will need balanced training with an adopter who is experienced with herding breeds, or other high energy working dogs.
He is good with other dogs but not yet exposed to cats. Cattle dogs tend to have a strong prey drive, so he might instinctually chase cats. We would need to have him meet to determine his temperament. He would do best in a home with a yard and an adopter who will take him to herd sheep or do agility. He would prefer a home with older children that would not mind being chased and nipped in the heels, but with an adopter that would guide him out of the natural cattle dog behavior.

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
