Hi! I’m Willie. I’m a purebred, black and white pointer just recently furloughed from my job hunting birds in the country. When I came to my foster family, I discovered that I just love being inside a comfy house with my people. My favorite thing is to run in the yard, get treats and hugs, and go for walks. Playing tug is just the best, and riding in the car is second nature to me; I just curl up and enjoy the adventure.

I’m still working hard on obedience and leash training, but Dad says I’m getting there and gradually improving. I’m just now learning to sit and not counter-surf. My foster Mom is also working with me on housetraining (no accidents yet), wait, come, and off. It’s pretty hard, but because treats are so yummy, I’m trying and learning more each day.

I’m affectionate, I take treats gently. I’m also energetic and would enjoy a nice-sized yard to romp in. Best of all would be a dog buddy to show me the ropes and play with me. Right now, I am the only dog in my foster home, but I get so happy to see other dogs on our walks! Sometimes they bark at me, but I just wag my tail. My pointing skills are incredible, so if you need me to point out any squirrels, bunnies or birds (real or imaginary) my radar is awesome.

I’m good with other dogs, but I’m not sure yet about cats. People are just great, but because of my enthusiasm I might be better suited to a family with older kids. I wouldn’t want to accidently knock a little one down. Having toys is new to me, and I’m learning they’re pretty darn fun. I’m very comfortable in my crate and keep it very clean and happily take my naps in there. Having a dog bed is still a new thing to me because I’ve never had one, but I’m gradually getting the hang of just enjoying it. My foster mom says I have been really brave at my vet visits, and I love seeing all of my friends there.

If you are looking for a happy, playful, outgoing, and energetic best friend who loves to go with you on adventures, then I am your guy!

From Willie’s foster mom and dad:

Willie has the sweetest temperament and is gaining more confidence each day. He has a fabulous appetite and is food driven which makes his training fun and easy. He weighs 49 pounds and needs a bit of weight (working on that). He is a typical high-energy Pointer and enjoys affection, treats and love. He has great eye contact and has really enjoyed his snuffle mat. He does his best after getting the wiggles out and running in the yard. He touches base with us, although he can always see we’re in view. He would do very well with an active mom, dad, or family; a yard to run in; and maybe a doggie sibling or two to play with and to help him continue to gain confidence in new situations. We are working hard on obedience skills and manners, and consistency in this would be wonderful for Willie. Willie is still learning how to settle in the family room for a little TV in the evenings, but he relaxes a little more each day.

Willie is up to date on all of his shots, monthly heartworm as well as flea and tick preventative, and has been neutered and microchipped.
