In shelter Dog

Victoria, BC, V8T 4V5
Pet name:
Rex is looking for a special home that can facilitate his current and possible future needs and loves him to bits all the while.

This big goof had come into our care with a limp and has been under vet care to get to the bottom of it. It turns out the lameness in his back leg is due to a prolapsed disc in his spine from an old injury. There is no treatment for this but there are great options for maintenance. Rex is starting a joint care supplement, as well as a joint-care diet to help him with mobility now and in the future. It is recommended that he doesnt do any strenuous activity (long hikes, running) but will still require regular activity to keep healthy and stimulated. In the event he overdoes it, he would likely need some pain control and anti-inflammatory to recover.

In addition to this Rex is currently recovering from TPLO surgery on his hind legs. This surgery has allowed him to play pain-free but will require some physio (covered by the shelter!) while he recovers. For this reason, he will need a local adopter as he will need regular vet visits (covered by SPCA) to ensure he is healing correctly.

Rex is the sweetest out there and loves people! He would probably do best as the only dog in the home due to rough play causing potential issues for his old injury, but he wants all the attention on him anyways. Rex is a joy to be around, his goofy demeanour will brighten up your day!

We receive a high number of applications for our animals, so we can only contact potential adopters to further review their applications.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic our adoption process has changed.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
