Jack Straw believes in practicing gratitude — for his second chance, for chew toys, for peanut butter Kongs — all of it. At 2, he appreciates naps and comfortable beds and is a fan of treats and people who carry treats in their pockets. He’s thankful for his fosters for giving him a practice run at living in a home. He’s grateful for all the new friends he met at Hodgepodge Coffee, where everyone makes a fuss about what a good boy he is and how handsome! How handsome you are, Jack Straw, they would tell him. Let me pet you, they would say. This embarrasses him, all this lavish attention about his rugged good looks, but it also delights him. Because, they wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. Jack’s foster says he’s been an easygoing guest in her home and is a joy to be around. She says he was very good about going into his crate when was time for her to go to work, and was able to quietly nap or entertain himself when she was doing things around the house. He loved going for daily walks and trying to chase, albeit it unsuccessfully, the squirrels of Atlanta. She says he tends to pull on leash, but switching him to a front-clip harness has helped a lot. Jack’s doggie social skills are are a work in progress. He’s made a lot of improvement in reacting less dramatically when seeing other dogs while he’s out on a walk. Because he can we awkward with other dogs, we think Jack would be most comfortable as an only dog in his home. If you are okay with that, you’ll find he is a warm, affectionate, loyal, easy companion. If you’d like to meet Jack, please submit an adoption application and we’ll take it from there!
