Meet Fisk! He is a 16 pound, four-year-old Poodle mix in search of his forever. Yes, hes adorable, fluffy and cute, but we need to be super clear about his personality quirks, in order to find him the forever home he deserves. Fisk needs a special person that has the grit and heart to love and support a dog that deserves a second chance. He was rescued from a shelter, so we have no idea what hes been through before we met him. What we think is that Fisk was never provided the proper environment to just be a dog. He likes to boss and thinks he needs to be in charge. The thing is, hes not great at it. What he needs is to be guided and managed into understanding that the humans are in charge and he doesnt need to be. A strong pack leader with boundaries and firm expectations. Fisk is the type of dog that will take advantage of your weaknesses. What do we mean by saying that? We mean that every day, there will be rules and set expectations, every single day. Fisk doesnt decide when to jump on the couch, you decide, or rather invite. When visitors come over, Fisk doesnt get to choose to greet friends his way. We choose when Fisk gets to make friends. Mostly, because his greetings arent always awesome. Fisk has probably been able to decide how and when and who he likes, and he may ankle bite when he wants to modify his environment, not everyone all the time, its just something weve seen him do. Its worked for him in the past, but with proper introductions and applying boundaries, Fisk will learn that ankle biting and growling to get his way is not required or acceptable. Fisk NEEDS walks a few times a day. This is required because this is his preferred method for doing his business. House training has proven to be difficult, but with regular walks, its been improving tremendously. Fisk has also been working on crate training, because he has some separation anxiety. The crate training is providing him the safety and comfort he needs to thrive, as well as, supporting that house training gig. No kids and if you have children in your future, this is a no go. Fisk is not an attack dog, but with his quirks, kids just arent a good fit. If youve read this far, we love it, especially now that we want to talk about the ideal home environment and the endearing qualities Fisk has to offer. We envision a calm and chill home environment. Low visitor activity and no hectic energy. Fisk would love to be one and only, but you cant spoil him to deathhe will catch on and rule your world. Fisk gets along with other dogs, so another dog would be great, as well. Fisk is perfectly fine relaxing at home with his family, but he can also be an avid walker. A 3-4 mile walk and/or hike is easy peasy for Fisk and walks and exercise will help keep him balanced and content, not to mention the bonding exercise provides is unbeatable. Fisk is frisky and enjoys playing with toys. You may even catch him doing some occasional zoomies. We prefer that his forever person have the type of schedule where they are home often, think work from home or retired. Anyone adopting Fisk will have the support of a training session and phone support as needed with our trainer. We want this to be a success, Fisk deserves it and so do you!
