Adoption policy

Broken Tail Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization run by a group of dedicated volunteers in Massachusetts. We focus on local animals in the New England area primarily, but we also assist southern dogs as well when space permits. If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat, look no further! We work closely with local animal controls, animal shelters, and rescue groups to ensure the placement of animals. We will not discriminate on basis of health, age, or breed and will only consider humane euthanasia in cases of aggression or for the quality of life due to untreatable medical conditions. Our animals are vet examined, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered as needed and receive any and all medical treatment necessary prior to being placed into carefully screened permanent homes. We are proud to have a 100% spay/neuter rate on the canines, felines, and rabbits that we adopt out. No animal leaves unaltered! All of our adoptable dogs and some of our adoptable cats are in loving foster homes. CAT ADOPTION CENTER PetSmart Cambridge 160 Alewife Brook Pkwy, Cambridge, MA 02138 We have some of our adoptable cats in the adoption center at PetSmart in Cambridge. Volunteers are available throughout the week as shown in the schedule to the right to answer your questions, accept adoption applications, and to let you into the adoption center to interact with the cats. However, we may encounter emergencies that result in no one being available at these times. We apologize for any inconvenience. Adoptions are completed by appointment only. You may also stop by at any time during the store’s normal hours to take a peek. If you see a cat that you are interested in adopting, you may fill out an adoption application online. FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
