Adoption policy

We are saddened to announce that Hank Hadley, husband of our founder and director Donna Hadley, passed away on July 4, 2019. He played an important role in the organization. He was supportive financially and in every volunteer role in which he was needed. He never failed to step up and give of his services and time. Our permanent fur kids will miss him greatly. Hank asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Shih Tzu and Precious Paws Rescue by copying and pasting the following website link into your internet browser. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=XLWVVY5EGD7U6 Donations are gladly accepted and much appreciated! We do not receive government funding from city, county, or state. We operate only by private donations from individuals and businesses. Without these kind donations, we cannot continue to save animals or provide them with the medical care they need. More often than not, the adoption donation doesn\"t fully cover our cost. Our adoption donations vary depending on the age of the pet and the cost incurred in providing care. At times we have several dogs undergoing heartworm treatments which can be costly for us. Every donation, large or small, adds up and enables us to provide much needed help in giving these homeless pets a second chance at a happy and healthy life. If you would like to make a donation please email Donna Hadley at shihtzumom@centurylink.net, contact her cell phone at (901)485-4303, or mail a personal check to: Shih Tzu and Precious Paws Rescue 55Oak Grove Drive Byhalia, Ms 38611 https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=XLWVVY5EGD7U6 We also need foster homes! Have you ever wondered where all the rescued dogs live while waiting to be adopted? Some people assume that Shih Tzu and Precious Paws has a nice shelter to house our dogs. That’s not the case. They live in our homes with us. We provide a foster home until they can find their own forever home. These dogs have already come out of very stressful situations such as noisy, scary shelters, abusive homes, hoarding cases, the streets, etc. These homeless dogs need a peaceful place to live and feel secure while being re-socialized. They all need to be loved on and held. They need to be reassured that not all humans are bad. Some may need a little help with housetraining but we will assist you with training aids if necessary. They need a place to run and play and interact with humans and other animals. You can make a difference in the lives of these pets. Without more foster homes, we cannot continue to take in pets who need us. Fostering can be short term or long term. As difficult as it is to let them go when they are adopted, it’s also very rewarding to know that you helped your foster dog have a second chance at happiness with a family that loves him as much as you do. If you have adopted from us in the past, we especially invite you to foster by simply contacting us and completing a few easy steps. If not, please contact us for more information on how you can apply to foster. Shih Tzu and Precious Paws takes care of all vet care, heart worm preventative, medications, etc. All you do is provide the food and the love. Please help us save lives and apply to become a foster parent today. If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principle difference between a dog and a man. \t\t\t - Mark Twain
