Mika's Story: Please read before you submit an application. Mika is 3 years old and 65 lbs. A DNA test was done. Surprisingly she is 50% AM Staf Terrier, 25% Golden Retriever, and 25% Bulldog Mix. Well we would have guessed lab was in there somewhere !We rescued this sweet girl from the shelter and named her Mika, which means "new beginning". Sadly her " new beginning " hasn't happened yet. In fact we rescued her twice.  She was adopted 1 1/2 years ago and recently found herself back at the shelter. Her owner surrendered her. The shelter luckily called us and we picked her up. She was surrendered because Mika, developed a bad habit of wanting to chase anything moving; such as bikes, lawnmowers, and she wanted to chase joggers. Her previous owner lived in a subdivision with lots of activity, many bikers going down the sidewalk in front of their home. The situation became urgent when Mika saw a biker when she was in her backyard , and jumped the 4' fence to chase. Something that she had never done before. With all that being said, Mika is a wonderful dog...when Mika is not chasing the vacuum cleaner she will find your comfy recliner and relax, if your sitting in it hopefully there is room for Mika. Mika is a calm girl, submissive to her humans, laid back most of the time. She is very smart and wants to please.  Mika loves to watch DOG TV, she is housetrained, does not chew, can free roam and will want to sleep in your bed if you will let her. She is good with other dogs. No Cats. Mika's new home will need to be in an area with little activity. No sidewalks, No bikers or runners. She will also need a 6' high fenced in back yard in her new home. Mika lived with a retired couple, so someone was usually home. She would prefer a home where she would not be left alone for more than a few hours a day. Mika gets nervous around fast movements , young children and lots of activity, so she needs a home with kids age 13 and over. Mika pulls on a leash, and we are working on that, she is very strong so a gentle leader or more training would be necessary to walk her. Of course, she needs to stay away from areas with bikes and joggers during her walks; caution will need to be exercised . Her adoption fee is $100.
