But saint aside, no stranger to a woman's needs
No handsome knights, no random acts of chivalry
Her bed remained a simple place for her to sleep”

Meet Joan of Arc Elton John !

Joan is a 4lb (teeeeeeny tiiiiny) 4 year old chihuahua who came to us from San Jose Animal Care CenterShe is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and free of parasites.  She will have labwork done this weekend (6/19/21) to ensure she is healthy.

Joan was born with a deformed front foot. You can see in the 4th picture that she came to us with a pretty gnarly wound on it from her time as a stray. She is getting care for her would, and even with the wound as bad as it is she doesn’t let that stop her from getting around .

New home will be expected to manage and monitor it -- perhaps boots, socks or other management.  It is likely to be an ongoing issue requiring veterinary care -- so if you are on a budget this is not the dog for you. Please be sure to mention this in your email/application to us

She is also a good girl while we are applying meds to her wound.

Joan is the happiest and loviest girl you could find. She gives the sweetest kisses for as long as you will let her. She loves any and all people and gets along just fine with all of the dogs and cats in her foster home.

Due to her small stature if there are children in the home they need to be respectful of her size.

She travels good in a crate, and only gets a little whiny if she thinks you have ignored her for to long . She feels very safe in a crate and will take herself to her crate for naps when she gets tired throughout the day. She wants to spend the evenings in your lap watching new episodes of Cruel Summer and Dateline.

Joan takes her antibiotic easily in a piece of meat for her foot wound. She is not currently on any long term medications and will have her bloodwork done this Saturday.

She is also on the schedule to have a dental done mid-July as they are back logged. If someone is interested in adopting Joan prior to her dental appointment, we will be happy to reimburse her adoption fee of $100 if they provide a proof of dental at their own expense with their own vet.  We are currently accepting applications ONLY from people willing to take care of her dental at their own veterinarian and please make sure to mention this in your email/application.  Proof will be required and it will be considered a foster-to-adopt until done.
She is fostered in the Sacramento Area of CA and adopters are expected to travel here to adopt.  We will not hold her for an extended period of time.  If you are outside of the local area, please notate that you will come pick her up within a week of application (if accepted) in your email/application

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 10
Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.
Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.
Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.
We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.  We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.
