Hi, I'm Tessie! I'm a loving pup who has had a rough start to life. I'm looking forward to getting the TLC I deserve. I'm the most playful pup who gets very excited all the time! I think my Foster Family said it best:

"

Tessie weighs in at 55 pounds with a 19 inch earspan. With Tessie, everything is a game. Eating breakfast? Looks like a game of keep away. Trying to do yoga? Looks like a wrestling pose. Relaxing on the couch? Looks like you're playing hard to get.

Tessie is looking for a family to love her (and play with her) as much as she will love them."

Even though I've been through so much, I still have so much love for everyone I meet. I am learning so much with consistent training and I'm looking forward to continuing that with my forever family. I hardly ever bark and I'm so sweet and sensitive. I love people and children, but need to be the only dog in a home. I can't wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!

Foster Application: http://bit.ly/fosterapprdr

Adoption Process: In order to adopt, we require an adoption application. After you submit an application, if you pass the screening, we will contact you to schedule a phone interview. We will call your references, including your veterinarian and landlord (when appropriate). We will also conduct a home visit. After these steps are complete, you will be approved to adopt a dog. Please note this process takes 1-2 weeks so applications submitted when you are ready to bring a dog home within that time frame. You can meet our adoptable dogs at events, however, we cannot guarantee that dogs at events do not have pre-approved applicants meeting them there as well, so the application is the best way to start the process.

Mission Statement: Forever true to “The Underdog”, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken.  We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog!

Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We adopt to the Washington, DC metropolitan area to include Maryland and Northern Virginia.

We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina.  Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland.

We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid.  100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue.

Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. Our goal is for our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!

All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, dewormed (although a second deworming may be required), started on heartworm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.
