Description:
Hi, my name is Beets. I'm a 9 year old shepherd mix who needs to be a one woman wolfpack. I enjoy long walks on the beach (but I'll also take a walk through the neighborhood, park, or trail, or really anywhere at all). I have one wonky ear so I'm a half way good listener. I enjoy staring deep into my humans' eyes as they eat literally anything. I know a few commands (sit, down, paw) but I only really listen when my humans have a treat to give me. I did mention my half way listening, right?

I'm currently employed as the home security system. When I'm not napping on the couch, I spend my days looking out the window on watch, wielding off the mailman, runners, other dogs, and ongoing traffic. For an older dog, I have a pretty loud bark so I'm perfect for protecting. I have free reign of the house. I never chew or get into anything I'm not supposed to so I'm pretty low maintenance and can be trusted to entertain myself when my humans are at work.

I'm very grateful for LovePaws who rescued me from a terrible home life situation. Up until I was rescued in 2020, I lived my entire life tied to a tree. I was not given proper care and was not spayed until September of 2020. Since I was tied up and not spayed until recently, I became an easy target for other dogs. I didn't have the means to protect myself. I've had several litters of puppies so I'm a little saggy on my belly. As a result, I'm not a fan of other dogs. I see every dog as a threat and I go into a reactive mode to protect myself. Therefore, I must be in a home where I am the only pet.

I'm a strong, independent lady who enjoys the company of my humans but I also am okay hanging by myself. On occasion, when I am sleepy, I will put myself to bed. I walk pretty well on a leash but occasionally pull when I see other dogs. Even though I'm only 65 lbs, my foster humans say that I have mom strength and feel stronger than a 65 lb dog.

Even though I'm a senior dog, I can run like Usain Bolt. I should be in a home with a fenced in yard so I can run and roll around in the grass. It takes me about 15 seconds to warm up to someone new. If a new human gives me a treat, we're instant friends. I also get along well with little humans who know how to interact with dogs.

I'm an old pup whose had a tough life. I'm looking for my forever home and someone to give kisses to.

Beets is not fostered with children, so for this reason if there are children in her forever home they need to be respectful kids 10 years and up.  Beets is ready to find her forever family.  She is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.

The adoption fee for Beets is $300.00, which helps with the cost of routine vet care.

***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs....all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many!

***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.***
