Description:
A special boy looking for human companionship to enjoy life together. Can you offer a loving home to this amazing pup? Dixon is a handsome 2 year old Australian cattle dog mix who is both loving and loyal.
He bonds strongly to his people and follows you around like a shadow all day long. An easy going guy who loves to cuddle up with you on the couch or lay happily at your feet while you work. It takes some time for him to warm up and trust new people, but once he does, he will put his head in your lap or gently place his paw on your leg asking for affection. Not a needy boy, just wants to know you’re around and he hasn’t been ‘lost’.
An intelligent, medium energy boy who enjoys doggie puzzles and being with his people. Knows basic commands ‘sit, stay, come, wait, bed, paw/shake’. Very treat motivated and loves animal cookies, cheerios, applesauce, steamed veggies and all fruit. Housetrained, crate trained and not destructive inside or outside. Enjoys daily walks and working on fear his fear reactivity when he see's unknown dogs. Rides perfectly in the car. Sleeps through the night in his own bed. He would be happiest as the only dog in your life or with an older, calmer dog. No cats or small animals, because he does have a prey drive. Children over 16 only please.

No apartments will be considered. A calmer home where his person is home the majority of the time and has a fenced yard would be ideal. He promises to keep it safe from any unwanted squirrels!
Dixon has a liver shunt, for a condition where his liver does not filter properly. He is doing very well being medically managed with food, and medication. Liver shunt dogs can live long, very normal lives with proper care. His food and medicine is easily shipped to your home through Chewy.com. He thrives in a consistent routine oriented environment and will bring so much love and joy to your life.
Dixon is 55 lbs. neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm negative and on prevention. His foster mom would be happy to answer all your questions about Dixon.
If you feel your home might be the right place for this wonderful dog, the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt.  Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter.
Dixon is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so custody and ongoing care are provided by the foster, not by DFWRM.
