From Coconut’s family:

My family and I love Coconut and want the best for him going forward. He thrives on as much attention as possible and needs to have significant time (hours and hours every day) periods playing outside of his cage. Coconut is not for novice bird owners.I am hoping to find a younger couple to adopt Coconut and hope all the more that the female human wants to adopt the bird and not  as much the husband.  I have learned that Coconut is quite a “ladies” man!!!
He loves when you watch him play with cardboard boxes and foot toys.  Put them in a place where the most action occurs within your home and watch him spend HOURS of his time cutting into the cardboard, converting a box into tiny cardboard chips!  He also likes to play inside paper grocery bags that are positioned sideways on a countertop. We use the desk in our kitchen as his playground.  He needs constant supervision when outside the cage.
Like most Umbrella Cockatoos, Coconut thrives on attention and demands it as much as possible. He does have separation anxiety; when he senses you are leaving the room or house he will scream to try and convince you to stay. Another Umbrella cockatoo trait is that he is LOUD! Umbrellas are comparable to the sound a 747 Jumbo Jet produces. LOUD!
He loves to sing, dance and talk.  He says “hi,” “hello,”  “Coconut,” “coco coco  nuuuutttttt”.
He has to have wooden toys at his disposal in the cage so that he can bite the wood to relieve stress.  Due to hormones he has plucked his chest feathers.
He looooves to be bathed and blowdried.  He loves to sit in the sun.  He is used to his cage being in front of a large window that gets lots of morning sun.  He will be happy to share a scrambled or fried egg with you and loves to drink water straight from the faucet or out of a sports bottle!  His diet consists of Zupreem colored pellets and a nut mix of cashews, almonds, peanuts, dried fruit and sunflower seeds.  His favorite nuts are cashews.
He will also play catch if u give him a small ball.  He loves to be cuddled, pet, hugged and kissed. He behaves like a dog! When inside the cage he does get loud because he wants your attention.
Cockatoos are very social and would thrive in a family whose members spend most of their time at home. His ideal new family would not have frequent visits and is home most of the day such as a newly retired couple or someone who works from home but is not on calls. No young children please. He loves to hang out on your shoulders, but with younger women he is not good.  He wants them all for himself and become over protective, territorial and may bite and become unpredictable.  We call it acting “hormonal”.  When visitors come over he considers them distractors from his family and may act aggressively as he does not want attention taken away from him.
He has never been around other birds but assume he will not want to share his family’s attention.
He has been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia. Coconut will be adopted with his cage, disease test results, toys and food to get is forever home started.
