Slinky is a super-sweet and handsome 5 year old, 90 lb neutered male looking for a furever home. Slinky came to the rescue, via a shelter, after his first family moved. He loves to romp in the yard with a ball or take a leash walk, with or without his canine foster-siblings. Other than relatively short spurts of energy at play, he is extremely chill, laying around on the floor, snoozing or chewing on a Nylabone. He is crate- and house-trained, and is respectful of room boundaries and furniture. He will occasionally seek out pets and cuddles, loves a good head scratch, and has potential to be your companion couch potato when he gets comfortable enough. He warms up quickly to new people and shows all the signs of typical shepherd loyalty. Slinky is a very sweet, special boy. Upon entry into the rescue, he was found to have a condition similar to congestive heart failure, which is being managed with daily medications. To complicate matters, he is also heartworm positive and can't be treated aggressively for them. While his condition is medically stable at this time, he is not overly energetic, and will need to take certain medications for the rest of his life. His vet is not sure how much time he has left, but he deserves to have the best quality of life and a forever family of his own until that time comes. He is currently living peacefully with one male and one female canine sibling. He politely shares toys and is not food aggressive. He shows curiousity but no aggression toward adults he meets. He has not been observed interacting with cats or small children. Due to his size, Slinky could use a little more training to ensure safe management when he is excited. If you think you can offer Slinky his furever home, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Slinky is being fostered near Southern Pines.
