Description:
Sweet and friendly boy, 8-year old Rocky, is available for adoption.
Rocky is a beautiful golden red Labrador mix who is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm and parasite negative. Rocky was with his original family since he was a puppy and even lived in Peru for a while so he knows some Spanish commands. A few years ago, Rocky started having seizures and between the medical expense and the difficulty handling the seizures when they happened with two young children in the home, his family made the difficult decision to rehome him. Fortunately, Rocky has been seizure-free since coming into foster care on December 12, 2020. He takes a medicine called Keppra 3 times a day to reduce the possibility of having a seizure. The last refill of Keppra cost under $20 for 140 tablets (approx.. 46-day supply) using GoodRx. Recently the vet said when Rocky has gone a full year seizure free, it may be possible to reduce the amount of Keppra he takes. But that would need to be monitored by a vet.
Rocky is a laid-back dog and who just wants to be with his humans wherever they are. At his original home, he lived with two young children but was more interested in the adults. On his walks around the neighborhood, Rocky is calm and friendly with the kids he meets. Although Rocky was an only dog, he greets other dogs well and after a few sniffs, he is ready to move on. Recently at an off-leash dog park, Rocky met and played well with all types of dogs. He is unknown with cats and so far has not shown interest in the squirrels and rabbits seen while walking or in the backyard. Rocky greets all types of people calmly, without jumping, although he does like to stand between some people’s legs for a butt scratch. In fact, the only time he seems to jump up is when his leash is attached. Rocky LOVES walks and car rides. He’s a very good passenger, stays in the backseat, and prefers the window down so he can feel the wind in his hair.
Rocky is very well behaved in the house and does not need to be crated. He has been left alone for up to 5 hours without any accidents or disruption to the house. He shows no interest in shoes, socks, or anything on the floor. Rocky ignores all furniture except one couch that he was invited to be on. Rocky is not interested in dog toys or playing fetch. However, he does love a beef marrow bone as a special treat. During the workday, he sleeps on the floor while I work in the home office. At night, he sleeps on the floor or his dog bed in the master bedroom.
