Say hello to Athena! Shes a 1 and a half-year-old German Shepherd mix that was surrendered to us due to her activity requirements. She is a super intelligent dog, but was just too much for her previous owner to handle. As far as her personality goes, she is about as sweet as she comes. She loves people and loves attention. Being a working breed dog, though, you can always see her gears turning. Shes great with people and did well with the children in her previous home. She also does well with the other dogs in her playgroup. The way to her heart is through a tennis ball. She loves to chase and play. Given the opportunity to exercise and to have a job, she would make a wonderful companion. She just needs someone who can provide a proper outlet for her. Athena was surrendered to the shelter whe her owner could no longer take care of her. She is friendly, playful and affectionate. Housetrained and crate trained, she is a little food possessive so best to be fed separately. She loves to play ball and will walk around with one in her mouth. She is energetic so a busy family will be a good fit for her. She does have some destructive (chewing) tendencies so should be crated when left alone. I am still available for adoption, but currently Im at Jeff City Correctional Center in the Puppipes for Parole program. I will be back at the shelter mid September. 9/22/22 Athena is back from JCCC after completing the puppies for Parole program. According to her handlers, she did very well with her commands. They worked on her issues with toy possession (not wanting to share) and getting too excited when playing with the other dogs and getting too rough and she is much better. She knows all her basic commands except for "Drop it" (giving up a toy). Will be best in a home where she can be fed separately.
