Coppers mom, the beautiful Lilah, was found as a pregnant stray in the 100 plus degree days and taken to an unair-conditioned shelter in a southern state. We dont generally take "big dogs" but she whelped 7 puppies on June 1 and one had already died in the heat of the shelter so we stepped up for the unfortunate family. One more puppy died right after they arrived. In time, we did do a DNA test and there was no Catahoula, although I can see why that was their breed guess on the mom. What DNA said is that the pups are 57% Lacy Dog. Never heard of the breed? Me neither. Google says that it is a breed developed in Texas in the mid 1800s and is, in fact, the state dog of Texas as of 2005. DNA also shows 10% Australian cattle dog, 8% lab and anywhere from 2% to 6 % of 8 other breeds from golden retriever to chihuahua. So what we have here is an all American mutt. And what do you get with that? You get a dog who is healthier, smarter and more patriotic than most. Im just sayin. Copper and her siblings are really terrific puppies. Smart, cute, playful and will be wonderful companions to a single person or family. Copper is the brains of the outfit. She was the first one to crawl out of the pool enclosure, the first one to figure out how to escape the door. She is smart, self confident and a beauty. Everyone was neutered/spayed this week (12.5 weeks), all vaccines are on board, the pups are microchipped, well wormed and ready to go. I had to go with a group shot because when I try to take pictures, they gang up on me. Ill keep working on it though. The adoption fee is $375 with all vet work done.
