Hi! My name is Toucan and Im a female chi mix and I weigh about 10 lbs. I am about 7 years old and I came to OPH with my babies. I am a little timid and sometimes a little growly when I first meet someone but its only because Im scared. I like to be held and carried around and to sit in your lap once I am comfortable with you. Im a good snuggler and if you let me sleep in the bed with you, I will burrow under the covers and snuggle up beside you. I tend to be particular in who I like and it can take awhile for me to decide. Im ok with other dogs as long as they arent looking for a playmate. I really dont care to interact with them. In fact, I tend to get somewhat annoyed if other dogs bother me. I dont really care for cats and can be somewhat growly around children. I am happy to spend my time just with my special person. I just need someone who is going to be gentle with me and treat me like the special girl I am. I would probably be happiest in a home with someone who will be with me most of the time and give me lots of attention. It would be a plus if I am the only dog or any other animals in the house are ok with me being aloof.
Im in search of my new home. Is that with you? If so apply today. I wont be available for long!

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. (OPH) rescues dogs and cats of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters in NC, VA, MD, and SC, reducing the numbers being euthanized. With limited resources, the shelters are forced to put down 50-90% of the animals that come in the front door. OPH provides pet adoption services to families located in VA, DC, MD, PA and neighboring states. OPH is a 501(c)(3) organization and is 100% donor funded. OPH does not operate a shelter or have a physical location. We rely on foster families who open their homes to give love and attention to each pet before finding a forever home. All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
