#### Pat is a super sweet fawn colored Chihuahua. She is 5 years old and weighs 6 pounds. This girl both smiles and wiggles with glee! She loves to be outside and gets super excited when she sees her friends come out to play. She gets extremely happy to see her human friends though they are a close second to her dog friends. While her name is Pat, she does not want to be patted, yet. She is not a fan of being touched or picked up at this time but we are hopeful that with patience and time, she will discover how special that is. New people and situations are difficult for her and she runs and hides or makes herself very small to avoid being noticed. Patience and letting her progress at her own speed is key for this girl as is a more confident and small dog. We will work with prospective people/families to show them how we work with our scared pups. If you are someone who likes to see positive growth, she will be fun for you to watch and see her learn to be with people. She loves to interact from a distance and with time, we hope that distance will become less and less. Beautiful and smiley Pat is a flight risk so she must have a fenced yard with a secure fence of at least 4 feet high. She also needs a small dog who will be a more confident companion. She has started leash work but is a beginner so walks are going to take some time for her to be ready. Maybe quite a bit of time since our darn crystal ball is broken or maybe it doesnt exist. Wouldnt it be great if we had one? Due to her fears, adults should understand that she needs people to move slowly and quietly around her. She is 100% worth the effort. If you would like to meet this sweet little one, please apply to meet her at NMDR.org. - - - - - - Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. Many of our dogs will need fenced yards and a confident dog in the family. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
