Description:
Adele has had a long history here at our shelter. She was originally brought in as a stray, older kitten at around 6 months old. She was very talkative and needed a lot of attention. After observing her for some time, she got along fantastically with a small chihuaua and the small dog mellowed her out a bit. The staff decided to try to send her to a home with many animals so she could have another companion at all times. The family she was adopted to had cats and a large dog who after many months of living with them started stressing her out so she started urinating innapropriately. Her owners surrendered her for this reason. After urinary testing we came to the conclusion that her urinary issues were stress related possibly due to the other animals in the household. She had not had any medical problems since shes been back at the shelter. We decided to send her as the only pet in the household to give her another shot at a forever home. A lovely owner decided to take a chance on her once again but after 3 weeks Adele started urinating inappropriately on his bed. He understandably did everything he could to make her comfortable and prevent this behavior but she was returned once again for the same reason. The medical team examined Adele again once she was returned and could not find any medical reason to cause this behavior and again came to the conclusion it is stress related. She has been very good about going to the bathroom in her litter box while in our care both times. While under medical observation she enjoyed hanging out with a small dog however would get stressed if she smelled or saw another cat in the room. We are hoping her next home will be her final home. Adele needs a very specific home to prevent any chance of coming back to our shelter for the third time. She needs an adult only home WITH a small, cat-savvy dog--no other cats besides Adele. If you are interested in Adele and have the household requirements mentioned above please submit an application and make an appointment to meet Ms. Adele.
