Rosie is a sweet, good and affectionate girl. She craves human interaction and contact and will follow you wherever you go so she doesnt miss anything. She is great with kids, but may not be suitable for a family with small children as she can be an aggressive snuggler and kisser which may frighten them. She is still learning to stay down and basic commands like sit, which she was never taught. She basically has two modes. She is either moving/exploring/sniffing or she is sleeping. There is very little in between and she does both very well. That is not to say that she is hyper. Quite the opposite. She is just methodical and always moving at her pace, normally with her nose to the ground. It is rare that she will sit or lay and just hang out. She always has to be doing something but at the end of the day when she gets tired, or for a midday nap, she will sleep very well for as long as you will let her. She has a fantastic nose and is VERY food driven. As such, she is a world class counter surfer and will even break into cabinets to get at food and garbage cans while you are standing right there. She is also not shy about trying to take food right out of your hand or off your plate. An owner will have to be very vigilant in keeping food out of her reach at the beginning. However, she has gotten much better in her short stay with the foster with simple commands like No and Down and she could be trained to an acceptable level with long term correction given her desire for that next treat. She is very wary of strange dogs. Her first inclination is to avoid them but after getting some level of comfort she will tentatively sniff and be somewhat accepting of their presence. She is not at all aggressive but may get defensive with overly exuberant dogs that make contact with her or bark in her face. She did live with another dog in her previous life so she might be able to do so again but we are recommending she be a one dog home for now. It is unlikely that she would ever actively play like other dogs can and would not be comfortable at all in a setting like a dog park. She would prefer to work and not be bothered. She is OK with cats according to her previous family. Rosie, should not have plush toys, as she will destroy them and possibly swallow things she should not. Hard toys and bones only and she enjoys those. She is an OK running partner but likes to stop and smell the roses occasionally so shes perfect for a beginning or casual runner. She also walks very well on a leash and rarely pulls. She was trained for bird hunting and should still be very effective at that but she will not play fetch and rarely chases toys. She definitely should not go to a home that has chickens or any other type of birds. She is potty trained very well and can go long periods of time without going outside. She is a little overweight currently but with constant daily activity and a strict diet she should get down to her ideal 45ish pound weight fairly quickly. She has lost 3-4 pounds with her foster already. She does OK in a crate, she may bark regularly while in there, but has earned the right at the foster to have free run of a couple of rooms during the day and has not had any accidents or destroyed anything. The perfect home for Rosie is an active family with children over 6 where someone is usually around so she is not left alone for long periods of time. A house with a fenced in yard or rural lot with room to explore would be great. If you fit this, please give Rosie a chance and you will be rewarded with all the dog love you can handle!
