Whiskey lived on a rural farm in Oklahoma as a completely feral dog. When she arrived she had no idea what it meant to be touched by a human. She had never been on a leash, never even eaten from a bowl. She was terrified of everything around her and did not know what it meant to trust anyone. For weeks, our staff would sit in her run just to get her used to human company, she was to scared to take treats from us and would wait to eat until the night time when everyone was gone. We slowly began to introduce her to other dogs, which really helped her start to come out of her shell just enough to go outside and back in on her own. Whiskeys rehabilitation has been nearly 1.5 years in the making. She has finally started to bond with a particular staff member. She enjoys quiet time and gentle pets and brushing. Whiskey still is not used to being on a leash. This will continue to take a lot of patience. She must have a home with a securely fenced yard. She is definitely a flight risk and is skittish. We are also requiring she have another dog in her new home.
Whiskey is mellow and keeps her run here at the shelter very clean. She currently plays in our small dog playgroup but gets along with dogs of all sizes. We believe she is around 4-5 years old and she weighs about 45 lbs.
Our hope for her is to find a loving foster home or forever home that will give her ample time and patience as she adjusts to life in a home. She will need a home with another dog, and a home without small kids as she is just to scared for loud voices and fast movements. Whiskey is a bit of a project dog, but we have seen the tender side of her and we know she will be worth the time put in.
