Say hello to little Poppy! Poppy is an adorable female puppy, approx 7 months old. She looks like a "mini yellow Lab", much smaller than a typical lab, and we estimate she will grow to be approx 25-30 lbs (based on her moms size). Poppy was born on the streets of Cancn, Mexico. She was rescued along with her mama and six siblings. She travelled to BC on Sept 12th and is being fostered locally in the lower mainland. Poppy is timid & cautious until she gets familiar with her surroundings. She needs some reassurance to know that shes okay. Once she feels at home, her confidence soars and her friendly, playful personality comes out. Poppy adores people, including children, and loves nothing more than spending time with her family. She loves getting pets and belly rubs, and curling up with you on the couch. Considering that shes just a puppy, Poppy is actually quite calm and easygoing. She likes to take long snoozes and shes very relaxed when shes not in play mode. In fact, her entire litter and her mama have a tranquil attitude about them. All in all, theyre a pretty laid back furry family Of course, Poppy does have a playful side and loves to rumble with her siblings. Poppy even bosses her brothers around despite the fact that theyre much bigger than her She is comfortable with dogs in general, big or small, young or old. At first, she needs a bit of time to get used to brand new dogs (using gradual introductions). But as long as dogs are friendly with her, she will quickly become their best buddy. Poppy doesnt have any aggression or food guarding behaviour. She only barks at other dogs to let them know she wants to play. Its not an aggressive bark, just an invitation hey guys, play with me! With cats, Poppy is pretty indifferent and doesnt pay much attention to them. Poppy is still getting used to walking on leash. Shes tentative about the leash and needs some encouragement to get going. She is easily distracted by the sights & smells of the outdoors so she will need more practice focusing on her handler. Car rides are a whole new world for Poppy, but she stays quiet & still in the car without needing to be crated or tied. Poppy is making good progress with house training. Using a crate for house training seems to be effective because she signals from her crate when she needs to do her business. Poppy is vet-checked, spayed, dewormed, and up to date on all vaccinations. She had a non-contagious fungal skin infection on her head which was treated with Chlorhexidine shampoo. No other medical or health concerns. Poppy is now ready for her forever home! Meet and greets can be arranged with top-listed applicants. **UPDATE FROM LOCAL FOSTER** "Poppy is a lovely little puppy who is shy and cautious at first but will relax and come to you if you give her a few minutes. She responds so well to positive feedback and wants to play. She retrieves soft toys like a pro. She plays happily but settles quickly for quiet time. She likes scratches and tummy rubs and cuddling on the bed with you. She is partially housebroken and will get the hang of it once she has an established routine. She walks pretty well on leash and rides quietly in the car. Poppy is learning to come to her name. She has had a bath and her nails clipped at the groomer with no signs of fear or anxiety. Poppy will do well if someone makes time for her and shows her kindness."
