Dog Name: Henna Breed: American Pitbull Terrier mix Sex: Female Age: 2 Weight: 61 Medical Needs: Will require heart worm treatment. Cost is covered by Grass Roots Rescue as long as you keep the appointment with their vet. She is currently on an antibiotic to prepare for treatment. Housebroken: Hasnt had any accidents in the house or her crate so far. Goes outside on a regular schedule. She does tend to walk around for a while before she gets down to business. Once she uses the bathroom, she is rewarded with plenty of praise and a training treat! Crate trained: Henna is a very scared girl, at first it took come coaxing with some yummy treats. But now she goes right in when its time and shes very quiet. She knows her crate is a safe space. When its time to come out she has very good manners. Good in the car: Nervous at first but settles in quickly and quietly. Good on a leash: Henna is a dream on a leash. She doesnt pull, she tends to walk next to you or behind you. With her being scared she does tend to stop and lean on you if shes afraid. She lets her person guide the walks. Will chase a rabbit if she sees one lol but is easily corrected. Energy level: Low. She likes to go for walks and cuddles right after. Shes still learning to be a dog and hasnt quiet gotten the hang of toys, she does show interest in the squeakers. Need a fenced in yard: No leashed walks are fine. Dog Friendly: yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? TBD Cat Friendly? Currently lives with a cat, and hasnt shown any interest in it, walks right by with no issues. Kid Friendly? Yes she likes the kiddos, almost like she knows they are safer than the grown ups lol. If yes, whats the youngest child youd recommend they be placed with? I would say at this point an older child, who understands that shes afraid and will take their time with her. She is scared of loud noises and sudden movements. Henna needs to be approached slowly and calmly at her level. Even with her being fearful she has never growled or barked. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Henna is a very scared girl, but shes making improvements on a daily basis! She will need someone who is confident and patient with a calm voice to let her know shes ok. She needs someone who will move at her pace, she is still learning not all people are bad. Once she trusts you, she will look to you for guidance and reassurance that everything is okthen comes the BEST parther love! She will shower you with the sweetest kisses and cuddles. And this girl loves belly rubs! Its the sweetest thing when she knows she can trust you and willingly rolls over for belly rubs. She is also learning basic commands! She knows when its time to go potty. She knows to go into her crate with go to bed. And shes also learning to sit when she does outside and before she comes back in. She is definitely smart but never had much training. She likes treats and praises which has made it a breeze so far. Henna has had a troubled past that we dont know much about, she came from a shelter in South Carolina. She was definitely fearful of a lot of things, and I dont think shes ever been inside a home. She was afraid of typical house sounds, such as the A/C coming on. But she has come leaps and bounds from when she first arrived and her confidence is growing everyday! Its been a joy to watch her start to come out of her shell slowly and begin to trust. Underneath that scared girl is a very sweet pup and I cant imagine how this girl will grow in confidence with her forever family!
