Zelda has been through it, but youd never know it. We first met her several months ago and were immediately in love. She had been kept in a basement, allowed out twice/day to potty and she was repeatedly bred. When the landlord found out, he contacted us to take her. The interesting thing about Zelda, besides her one blue eye, was that she was missing the lower part of her rear leg. No one is quite sure what happened or why so much of her leg was left, but she had some pretty bad phantom leg and would twist her spine in a weird way when she walked. We knew we had to help her or she was going to be in bad shape as she aged. The vet recommended a complete amputation, which we promptly scheduled. They ran her blood work when she went in for surgery and, wouldnt you know it, our girl was positive for heartworms. So after many months of surgeries, recoveries and heartworm treatments, this lovely, happy girl is ready to find her forever home. 

Zelda loves people and does great with older children. She hasnt been tested with younger kids. Other dogs, however, take some time for her to warm up to. Introducing her to other dogs needs to be done slowly and carefully. She would probably do best as an only dog but has learned to live with other dogs thanks to a very savvy foster home!
