*Nyla is not a Chasing Daylight dog. If interested please call 920-642-4067 or email hhoke479@gmail.com Nyla is a sweet girl who is very loving and protective of her people. She loves to snuggle close in bed at night and gives never ending kisses if she’s allowed to. Nyla loves her toys, especially heavy rubber or silicone toys and stuffed animals. She also loves to chew on fleece blankets. Nyla does well when left alone for hours at a time but will bark/scratch at windows or doors if she can see people or animals outside the house. She eats when she is hungry (not an overeater) and drinks a lot of water, especially if she’s stressed. Nyla has always been allowed on furniture and she enjoys perching on the back of sofas to look out windows. She is a counter surfer, so food should not be left out. She would benefit from a home with a fenced backyard so she can run freely. Walks should be done on quiet country roads or trails, if possible. Nyla has high anxiety, high prey drive, and shows fear aggression. She has to be completely sedated for any vet visits. Shes been socialized with many people and was included in activities as much as possible in the past, but we used a lot of management strategies to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Management strategies included: keeping Nyla in a separate space when people entered the house, introducing new people and dogs in a fenced area so Nyla could pace or roam as needed, wearing a muzzle and giving Trazodone when around more than 3-5 people at a time, using treats to redirect Nyla’s attention from distractors (small animals, strangers, bicycles, etc.). Nyla has never bit anyone to intentionally harm, but does mouth and nip during play. She has also snapped at hands when stressed. She barks, lunges, and jumps at strangers but, given time, develops strong, loving relationships with the people she knows. She does NOT like to be touched by people until she trusts them. Nyla cannot be around small animals because she loves to chase. She does fine with other dogs of similar or smaller size and more relaxed temperament. She likes to be "in charge". These behaviors have always been present. Multiple styles of training have been attempted with various professionals, but nothing seems to “stick”. She has been working on muzzle/harness and reactivity training the past few months.
