Description:
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Grace. She is a 7-year-old Labrador/Bassett hound who was surrendered to the shelter when her owner passed away. She weighs 46lbs and has a medium-length hair coat. Grace is a very happy girl. Her tail wags constantly as you look or talk to her. She does great on her leash and body harness and loves her walks. She is quite striking in person. Grace is now on weight control food. She will eat any brand of food and does best on one with grain in it. Her food is measured out twice daily. She sleeps on her doggie bed in her foster parents room and doesnt mind sharing with another foster dog she is friends with. She does have an obsession with balls and will bark continuously until you throw them. Once one is done playing fetch, its best the balls be put away so she knows playtime is over. Grace was surrendered with a Dachshund and it was discovered that the two did not get along very well. Both dogs are possessive over toys so we moved Gerald to another foster home. We do not believe Grace requires another dog in the home. As long as the family isnt gone too long throughout the day, she should be fine. Grace also rides very well in a vehicle. She loves car rides almost as much as walks. We have no idea if she was ever exposed to children but we can see that cats in a home are not an option as she barks at the feral cats outside her foster home. Grace loves cuddles and kisses. She is a bit of a bull in a china shop, having a solid build of both the lab and Bassett. This gal does not howl, she barks only when there is a reason or if she wants you to throw the ball. As she can be toy obsessed we would caution taking a toy away without a high-value treat in your hand. The ideal home for Grace would be more of a quiet home. Since we do not know if she does well with children, we would recommend older children 12 years plus or a child-free home. A family that goes for at least two walks a day would be important as it is the highlight of her day. Playing outside in the yard with her toys and keeping the family company would make her very happy. She enjoys attention so a family that has the time for that would be a good fit. Grace is spayed, up to date with vaccines, dewormed, microchipped and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention during the season. He is heartworm negative. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory in order to apply for Grace. Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application. Available to Ontario Residents only!!!
