Drake is a 2 year old Staffy boy who is around 65 lbs. He has a beautiful and unique gray brindle coat and is stunningly handsome. He is UTD on vaccines and is neutered. Drake is house trained and learning to love his crate. Drake does fine being left alone in the home but does prefer being with people. He is a very active boy and he loves going on walks and hikes and running around the back yard. He is super fun but does require daily activity to help him slow his brain down and get energy out. He is happy and loving and loves to snuggle with his people. Hes super smart and picks up on new skills very easily when talk with positive behavior modifications techniques. He had a home that did not provide him with the love and care he needed and then was pretty traumatized from his time at the shelter but hes down amazing in his foster home since going to live there. Child appropriate? Older children...pre teen or teenagers and up. Drake is very rambunctious and can sometimes play rough and can get mouthy at times if hes overexcited. Other dog appropriate? Drake would likely do best as the only pet in the home. While he does not react to other on walks or hikes, but can get reactive to dogs at the fence. While at the shelter he struggled with shelter stress and therefore did not test well with other dogs. Cat appropriate? Drake needs a kitty free home. How is he with strangers? Very friendly with strangers. Gets excited when he sees new people. He has never shown any issues meeting new people and is happy to make a new friend. What is his play style? He loves playing tug of war and catch with a ball or toy. He is very gentle with his toys when playing ball or tug and he has no guarding issues at all. He can get a little overwhelmed and excited when playing and this is where he gets a little rough. Hes not aggressive, just excited to play. Does he like toys? Drake loves toys! Hes great with them too. He doesnt guard them or have any issues sharing, he just thinks you are playing with him. Helikes anything he can chew and is destructive with this toys and rips everything apart. Tougher toys are better for him as its takes him longer to destroy them! He also likes bones and treats. While he chews his toys he does not chew other items in the home and hasnt had any issue destroying other items. Does he like water? Drake loves water. He like to lay in the lake and tries to go for swims when taken for hikes. Does he like car rides? He is awesome in the car and loves to go for rides. He stays in his backseat dog hammock. Exercise level needed? Drake needs a high level of exercise so he is not a dog for someone who isnt active. He requires daily exercise such a minimum 2 longs walks accompanied by playing ball in the back yard or anything that gives him a chance to run around. He can’t get too much exercise and would probably love to learn to run on a treadmill. His foster parents work from home and he is okay thru the day, goes in and out of the backyard to entertain himself and also lays at their feet while they work. Behavior issues? Drake pulls on leash when going for walks as hes very excited to get out and about. He uses a harness but still needs work with not pulling. Drake doesn’t have great awareness of his size and can invade space or step on you if sitting on the floor. When he gets riled up he gets mouthy, never in an aggressive way but does need to be corrected. He does take corrections very well. He can get fixated on lizards and bugs in the backyard and continually makes the rounds searching for them. Medical issues? No known medical issues. He has shown some sensitivity to some foods so we are working on what is best for him. Skills? Drake can sit, shake, and lay down when asked. He is also quite a skilled sprinter. He has learned to stay out of the kitchen and off furniture. Special/endearing things? Drake has big, yellow, crazy eyes and floppy ears. Hes a big goofball and a giant ham. He is happy all the time and really enjoys being with his people. He always has his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth and is always up for a challenge. He carries his big soft blanket up and down the stairs like a child would and often likes to teethe on it to self soothe. While a rough and tumble boy, he is super sweet and really wants to learn and please his people. He is an all around good boy and would make a very fun and loving addition to an active family. Ideal home? Drake would do best as the only pet in the home. He would be best with an experienced and active dog owner. His perfect home should have a good sized yard with a secure 6 ft. fence where he can safely hunt lizards and run around. His ideal home would have time to exercise him daily or maybe someone with a treadmill who can train him to use it. Drake is a sweet boy and he needs a home who will provide him with the love and comfort he deserves. He needs to be an inside dog who is part of the family and who has adequate time to spend with him. His ideal home will be committed to continuing his training and work with him to help learn to harness his energy.
