Description:
Meet Danny, a/k/a Rosco. Because we have a cat named “Danny” in the program, and because he now goes by “Rosco”, that is the name we’ll be use going forward in his bio. He is a male Black Lab /Rottweiler mix, approximately 5 years old, and weighs 53#. Rosco came into the program as an unclaimed stray from an animal control so we don’t know his history … but he looked like he hadn’t been well cared for (skin issues and ear infection) and probably wasn’t well socialized (uncomfortable with new situations). He is a very timid boy but once acclimated, he is playful and loves to cuddle! His favorite play is with another dog but sometimes he’ll pick up a toy and carry it around. Rosco is house trained and goes out on a schedule but, if he needs to make an extra trip outside, he will whine and go to the door. Good with other dogs and cats. He will fare better with quiet, older kids and must have another dog friend to be his companion, playmate, and teacher to help him learn to trust and lessen his timidness. Rosco is very well behaved in the house and has never been crated or confined when left – he roams free with his dog pals. He is permitted on furniture in his foster home so he can snuggle next to you when you watch TV, and he sleeps next to his person at night. Barks appropriately. Comes when called. He does pull on the leash so will need work on this and you might try a harness. Comes when called but hasn’t mastered any commands yet. Rides OK in the car. He is afraid of new people and will usually run and hide from them but, with time and patience, he comes around. He is an avid fan of the dog park and is learning to interact with strangers there.

Rosco has a very sweet disposition. He needs a fenced yard as he has a lot of energy and loves to play/run, and he needs another dog about his size to show him the ropes. His adopter should have previous experience with shy/fearful dogs and have a relatively quiet home.
Rosco has been neutered and tested heartworm negative. He is current on distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccinations. Towards the end of last year he had a dental cleaning – no teeth needed to be pulled. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. Rosco has a $295 adoption fee. Please call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in meeting this sweet boy.
