AGE: Adult - Approx 3-5 years DESCRIPTION: DSH Black and White LOCATION: PETS Shelter (114 W Main Street) - Panora, IA MY STORY: Hector has quite the story to tell but we hope this story will help him get his forever home where he is safe and loved. Several years ago, Hector ended up in a live trap at the Historical Village in Panora. He was taken to the low-cost clinic, vetted/chipped, and named Hector, but he was EXTREMELY wild so we released Hector back into the area where he was trapped knowing he had access to food and water and shelter, if he wanted it. Fast forward a year later. A woman contacts our shelter about a friendly cat hanging around her house but scaring off her barn cat. Plus, he keeps trying to get in her house and with the very cold weather (it was winter and sub-zero temps) she was worried he was in trouble. Our volunteer went out to get the cat but he took off when he saw her so the lady said to leave the carrier and she would get him. Our volunteer hadnt even gotten home when the phone rang and the lady said, "Got him!" When our volunteer took him home, she looked at him and thought this cat sure looks familiar. He wasnt too happy so he had to chill out in a cage for a while. Once she was able to scan for a chip, we found a chip and discovered this was Hector! Hector soon warmed up to his foster mom and was doing fantastic but we were just not sure if he could be adopted into a home or should perhaps be a shop cat. A shop home opened up and so we let this beautiful boy go to his new home...only for everything to go completely wrong. Hector hid in fear from them for days and then one day he just disappeared. It made no sense and we couldnt find him anywhere. His foster mom suspected he was in the ceiling but he wasnt answering her and there was no sign of him anywhere...plus there was only a tiny hole into the ceiling. A live trap was set on the floor and food left out but it wasnt touched. A week goes by... The family decides to get more shop cats. A few days later, they hear meowing in the ceiling! It was Hector! He was still there but was in bad shape. His foster mom drove 1.5 hours to the shop and said she wasnt leaving without him. After about an hour of coaxing and calling, her sweet foster boy come out of the darkness and to her hand in the ceiling. She grabbed him tighted and pulled him out not letting go for fear she would only have one shot. Hector was finally safe and back in the arms of his foster mom...and he was soooooo happy. All the ride home she told him how much she loved him and had worried he was gone forever. She would never let anything like that happen again. Hector is slowly getting back to the big, beautiful boy he once was. He is starting to play with toys and really loves his play tunnel. He is good with the other foster kitties that live with him. His foster mom wishes she could keep him but there are just so many kitties needing help that if the right home would come along for this wonderful kitty, she would let him go. This time, it must be an inside-only home where he is part of the family. Adopter must be very cat-savvy and willing to go very slow and work with this kitty. A home visit might be required. Hector really is that special! If you have questions about this kitty, please message us and his foster mom will get back to you. If you are willing to commit and give this boy a home, you really wont regret it. Hes fantastic and so handsome. MORE DETAILS: Inside-only home and must keep claws. The adoption fee for this kitty is $100. Adopt a pair of kitties for $150. Each cat and kitten has been: altered (spayed/neutered), vaccinated (age-appropriate) - rabies and distemper combo, microchipped, tested for FeLV (negative unless previously noted), and treated for fleas, ear mites, and worms. We ask that interested parties fill out a cat adoption questionnaire only if you are seriously considering adopting this sweet kitty. You can get the application by going to our website at "http://www.panorapets.com/adopt" and clicking on the "Cat Adoption Questionnaire" button at the top of the page. Once you have submitted the questionnaire, an adoption coordinator will contact you usually within 24 hours. Please be patient and thank you for your interest in this kitty. P.E.T.S. supports the "Paws Need Claws" Campaign. Cats are rather attached to their claws; please do not de-claw your cats.
