Hi, Im Mr. Whiskers, a big, friendly orange tabby boy. I was rescued from the street and originally brought to SBACC in 2020. I was probably hit by a car and was unable to put weight on my left hind leg. I was sent to a specialty hospital after it was discovered that I had a fracture in a bone in my foot that had started to heal improperly. The vet said that setting the fracture was not possible and unfortunately the recommendation was amputation of my affected leg. I quickly learned to get around on three legs. Despite all that I had been through, I remained a very sweet boy who loved people, pets, and attention, and I was adopted and had a home for nearly a year. Then I got sick and didnt want to eat and started to lose weight. It took the vets a while to figure out what was wrong but it turned out to be FIP which has always been a fatal disorder. My Mom found out about a new treatment but it was really expensive and involved injections every day for at least three months. She just couldnt do it on her own so she brought me back to SBACC. My treatment was long and hard and was followed by another three months of observation to see if I was really all better, and I am!!! So I am ready for a new home now, and I hope I dont have to wait too long. Special kidney diet and subcutaneous fluids every other day. Prednisolone daily for skin allergies. Easy to medicate. Mr. Whiskers adoption fee has been paid by a generous donor!
