Walnut is a handsome adult male German Shepherd around 6.5 years of age. Walnut was surrendered to the shelter for euthanasia in extremely poor shape after having been a backyard dog for many years. We do not know his history beyond this. Walnut is an affectionate, goofy guy who enjoys making new friends. He is a social guy but also has an independent side that thinks he can do whatever he wants - like hoard toys, blankets, and bowls in his crate. Walnut is a top notch hoarder and would certainly win a dragon audition. Walnut enjoys getting attention, pets, and rubbing his itchy spots on people. However, he does not appreciate restraints or anything that he deems restrictive. Less is more with him and he is happy to cooperate when asked nicely. Walnut has been around a 9-year-old extensively that he thinks is pretty cool. He would likely do best with children 5 years of age and up that are not going to tug on him. Walnut lives with multiple other dogs that he gets along with well. He can be more on the dominant side having been an unaltered male for most of his life. He tends to be pushy in his playstyle and has a hard time understanding the boundaries other dogs set. He is learning and growing every day though and does enjoy the companionship of the other dogs. Walnut lives with cats and ultimately does okay with them. He has a tendency to chase if given the chance but leaves them alone for the most part. Walnut does seem to have severe seasonal allergies. He arrived bald in the fall, recovered over winter, and had a serious flare in spring. He is once again on the mend and recovering well. His adoptive home will need to work with their veterinary to find a protocol that works best for them and their environment in controlling his hair loss. Walnut is a big hearted goofball that is looking for a home that will love him through all seasons of his life.
