Meet our sweethearts Captain (short for Captain Crunch) and Cocoa (short for Cocoa Puff). These are the Cereal Pups!

They are a very bonded pair and have to be adopted together. They are completely inseparable and would be lost without each other. When they first came to rescue, they were terrified of everything and have come a long way. We don’t know their prior history except they were heartworm positive. They were dumped at a high kill shelter with very little hope. We were contacted by a friend in another rescue with a plea for help for them. Now they have met new people and been fine and have made new four-legged friends. They love to play and have very good energy.

We have had them on the slow kill for a while and Captain is completely heartworm free and Cocoa is a very low positive which probably means all the worms are gone and she’s just absorbing what was left and should be negative in a couple of months. They will need someone that’s willing to make enough visits for them to be comfortable with them. Probably not good jogging partners as they really hate to be on a leash and will need some more training and work with that. They do mind their foster mom very well and are extremely gentle and no aggression whatsoever. All they need is someone that is loving and patient but also a strong leader and knows the breed.

Note from Captain and Cocoa

We’ve really come a long way since we’ve been here with Foster mom. We were terrified of everything, but she won us over with lots of love good food and being patient with us. We’ve made new friends here, two and four-legged but we really are terrified of leaving as we’ve become very comfortable here. We would need someone to come visit us a few times so that we know we could trust them. You see we were put in the car and taken to a really scary place, and we didn’t have much chance of getting out till someone notified Foster mom and helped get us to her. So sometimes when we have to get in the car it brings back really scary memories. We’re getting much better. We would really like a nice big yard to run and play in.

An apartment or condo with no yard would definitely not work for us. We’re kind of trustworthy in the house but I would not advise you to leave us alone and uncrated. We have a room all to ourselves when we’re not out for playtime. Foster mom calls us Cocoa Puff and Captain Crunch, the cereal pups. Not sure why she does that I guess she thinks it’s cute or funny but as long as she keeps giving us good food and treats and lots of love we don’t mind. We love to be petted and have lots of affection. Did I mention we love treats? We really like the Costco biscuits or just about anything yummy. So, if you have lots of love and some patience and are good with German Shepherds and would like to have a really beautiful, bonded pair please fill out an application for us. I promise you won’t be sorry.
