Meet Monroe! This handsome goldendoodle is approximately 9 months old. He found himself at Zoes House due to no fault of his own, he just didnt sell from the puppy mill he came from. He was with the puppy mill longer than he should have been and wasnt properly socialized. When we picked him up we noticed he was in dire need of a bath/grooming. He also had a double ear infection. We quickly got him set up with the groomer and the vet. He was very scared and unsure of these new environments, he was also very scared of his new foster home. We knew we needed to take our time with this shy pup and let him come out of his shell on his own. The first thing we noticed right off the bat about Monroe was that he loved to be outside and loved playing with the other dogs in his foster home. This gave us a starting point to gain his trust and love. This is one of the sweetest pups you will ever meet but he is very shy and takes time to warm up to new surroundings and people. We have learned a lot about Monroe during his time with us and that is why he has a few requirements for his new home. Monroes new home will need to have a fully fenced in yard, he has gotten out of a yard that wasnt fully fenced and it took us some time to get him back. He will also need to be in a home with at least one other friendly, playful pup. He has learned a lot from our dogs and really shines when he has a buddy around. He can be vocal and for that reason, no apartments or attached homes. Monroe is a total sweetheart but because of his skittishness only children at least 12 years or older in the home. He would also do best in a home that typically has someone home. We know this is a lot to ask of a home but we want Monroe and his new family to be prepared and understanding that he had a very rough start but has a ton of love to give when given the time to adjust. Monroe is potty trained. He is also crate trained but is very vocal while crated. He is anxious while crated but does calm down. While in the crate he will start to bark as soon as he realizes you are leaving, when you come home or if he hears something. Because of his anxiety we do have him on medication to help calm him. He takes his medication twice a day and is a real champ. We put his medication in a treat and he doesnt think twice about taking it. At night he has been sleeping in our bedroom and is very happy to sleep on the dog bed. He will wake you up bright and early to let you know he needs to go potty or hes ready to start his day. On a daily basis you can find Monroe running around outside, playing with our other dogs or resting on a dog bed or in his crate. He will also jump on the bed or sofa to snuggle with you. He loves getting pets and love. At first he will shy away from you but once he knows who you are he will come to you for love and he really does love the attention. Monroe also loves to carry toys around and has found that he enjoys chewing on bones. He has a healthy appetite and is food motivated. He has been around cats and has never bothered with them. One thing that he doesnt like is the leash, and he will need work in this area. He will walk on the leash but pulls and pancakes showing he doesnt want to walk. He would definitely benefit from going to training classes. His new home will be a lot of changes and his new family should expect regression with change. Because of the goldendoodle breed his new family should be prepared and committed to brushing him regularly and getting him groomed about every 6 weeks. He is UTD, microchipped and neutered. Monroe is currently being fostered near Reading, PA. All interested applicants will need to be willing to come to this area to meet him.
