In shelter Dog

Council Bluffs, IA, 51503
Pet name:
Labrador Retriever
Rocky, a Lab/Staffie mix born July 2016, is looking for a new home with people who will love and understand him. Although he has had a rough start to life, with the right training and positive reinforcement, this boy will be a faithful companion. He will come with training so we can be sure he will live a great life and you will be equipped to deal with and learn all about how to help him gain confidence. In his previous home, Rocky was severely abused and ended up in the shelter. That environment was not conducive to helping him heal so we worked together to get him into a loving home where he could learn all about people and learn to trust them. He will need the proper introduction with all resident dogs and children over the age of 12 to ensure a great long-term relationship. Young children prove to be too unpredictable for Rocky, so we are recommending no children or children over the age of 12. Rocky has so much potential to be the most loving companion with the right family. He will thrive most in a home with a fenced in yard so he can have space when he needs it and a family that is experienced with dogs.

Rocky needs time to feel safe with new people. Interested adopters should expect a few meetings for Rocky to get to know them. A trainer will be a part of the process to help Rocky and his new owners work well together.

Update from foster 12/26/18: Rocky is a big sweetheart that shows his best self in environments where he feels safe and relaxed. Having struggled with fear and anxiety around strangers and loud noises, Rocky has come a long way and enjoys going on outings and doesnt mind the vacuum as much anymore. He knows sit, shake and lie down and comes when hes called. He is well house-trained and does well in a crate. He loves his squeaky toys and enjoys a good game of fetch with them. Rocky may need some time to warm up to you, your kids or other dogs. If those around him are calm and patient, he will more likely feel safe. When that happens, he will be your biggest fan.

Before applying to adopt Rocky, you need to be familiar with your local breed-specific legislation regarding Pit Bulls. Applicants must live within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.

The suggested adoption donation for Rocky is $365, which is TAX DEDUCTIBLE, and goes toward providing supportive services to animals inthe home, as well as the high cost of vetting our dogs in rescue. If you would like to welcome Rocky into your home, please begin by submitting our AdoptionApplication. The adoptions for all of our dogs will take place in the Omaha,
NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver the dogs.

Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dogs needs. If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
