AN AFFECTIONATE, HAPPY FRIEND: 9 years old / 46 lbs. and needs to lose a few pounds

Hello, my name is Maddux! I lost the home I’d had all my life when my owner moved in with family members and couldn’t take me with them. I am sad about that, but I’m adjusting well and know that Mostly Mutts is going to help me find a new family to love!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression and just showed a little nervousness. If you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / Cats unknown / I met a nice boy and a girl around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and liked them, so a home with kids ages 10 and up could be a good fit for me. I did a lot of play barking when we met, but my former owner also reported that I liked kids. Let’s meet!

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a sweet and polite fellow with a gentle nature. My adjustment to shelter life has been helped along by the love and care I am receiving from the volunteers. I was initially sad on my walks when I didn’t understand my new situation, but I began to perk up and became a much happier guy when the volunteers took me to the pen for some petting and love. I have been a well-behaved boy at Mostly Mutts and I’m sure to add lots of love to my new home. / My energy level is 3-5 at the shelter and my former family said my energy level was moderate.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am excited to be a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I am learning lots of great doggie commands with my trainer. I already know the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘drop it’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette, walk well on a leash and accept nice strangers without jumping on them. I bet you can teach me even more! / I wasn’t crated in my previous home, but my crate manners have been good at Mostly Mutts, though a little stressful, so I don’t want to spend a lot of time in a crate in my new home. / I reportedly had good potty habits in my previous home, though Ive been having some accidents on the shelter schedule. Perhaps it is all part of getting used to the shelter and the schedule there. I may just need to go out just a bit more often than the four shifts at Mostly Mutts.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: Spending time with the volunteers has helped me settle in at the shelter, so I know getting love and attention will be important to me in my new home. I seem somewhat interested in toys, so let’s have some fun play sessions together. This will help me lose a few pounds, which I need to do. I’ve certainly enjoyed time spent with people in the shelter play pen. / I don’t like to be restrained, so initially leashing was not my favorite thing. I prefer pill pockets for my joint supplement, as I don’t like peanut butter, and I don’t want to spend a lot of time in a crate. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get the love and attention on which I thrive.

• MEDICAL: Im current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I take Cosequin – an over-the-counter joint supplement – on a regular basis to keep my joints feeling their best since I am a little older.

I am looking for a great family to give me loving furever home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
