Phoenix is a sweet 1-1/2 year old male Labrador Retriever mix who arrived at the HSOV on April 12, 2022 after he was picked up on Bells Run Road in the Newport Ohio area by the Washington County Dog Warden. Phoenix was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Phoenix had been at the Bells Run Road location for the past week or so and many animal lovers were concerned about his safety and tried their best to gain his trust .. But he was too frightened to allow himself to be apprehended. A kind resident in the neighborhood was able to befriend him recently and he began to take food from her hand. We are relieved that Phoenix is safely in our shelter tonight. Phoenix has an auburn short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with pale brown eyes, a liver-colored nose on his slender muzzle, and short floppy ears. Phoenix has a gentle, rather cautious, disposition and an affectionate, lovable personality. He accompanied HSOV Kennel Manager Rachal Merrow for outdoor photos soon after his arrival and looked to her for guidance and reassurance. Phoenix weighs 52.6 lbs and could easily gain a few pounds to fill out his slim physique. He walks fairly well on a leash. Phoenix appears to be in good shape physically though he is limping on his left hind leg. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Phoenix will be held for three days so that his owner will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Phoenix was not reclaimed, he was neutered on May 10, 2022 and was also given rabies vaccine.
