Luke is an affectionate, lovable homebody who is looking for someone who will take the time to earn his trust and slowly introduce him to new experiences. Luke had a hard start in life without positive human interaction followed by a lengthy shelter-stay in Merced, but hes working hard to overcome his fears. With "his people Luke loves to get head scratches and belly rubs and will not hesitate to paw you if you get distracted! He is a medium energy dog who is submissive to his two foster canine siblings, both of whom he gets along with WONDERFULLY. In fact, you can often find Luke with his foster brother, Remo, running, jumping, and rolling around the backyard together in total delight. Luke also enjoys quiet walks on a local country road where he loves to scout the landscape for ground squirrels. While he prefers a more peaceful setting, he is learning to go for walks in busy places with lots of bikers, joggers, and walkers. Luke is a young and incredibly sweet dog who will make a wonderful pet for someone that has a quieter lifestyle and understands that his socialization process will require a lot of time and patience. This means that would probably do better in a home without children, although he currently lives with a toddler at his foster family with whom he is very well behaved. While his foster parents trust him 100% around their toddler, Luke does not appreciate the unpredictable movements of his tiny roommate and prefers to keep his distance. Luke is also quite frightened of strangers and will try to hide when people come to the house or bark at them from a distance. However, when uncomfortable he has never displayed any aggression, rather he prefers to hide or will simply freeze. Luke is potty-trained and crate trained (his crate is his safe space and he is more than happy to go into the crate when his family is out of the house). Also, since he does so well with other dogs and finds the presence of other dogs reassuring, it is highly recommended that he is adopted to a home with another dog.
