Meet Claude, an approx. 1.5 year old male Lion Head mix. Claude is a strong boy with a splayed leg whos not willing to let it hold him back. Claudes left leg sticks out at an odd angle and hes not able to use it to hop around, but hes got more than enough strength in his other leg to get him where he needs to go, and fast! His good foot has a touch of pododermatitis right now and so hes got a bootie on it (which he is not fond of). He is otherwise a perfectly normal rabbit - he loves his food and his toys, and he even "tolerates" some human attention. The only thing he really doesnt like is his splayed leg being touched, so nail trims are best done as a two-person job. Claude does have some special needs: his pen needs foam pads to protect his foot, and he should not be allowed to roam onto hard or slick surfaces. He also needs a low-profile litter box. Claude is a little messier than most buns - he tries to use his litter box, but his splayed leg tends to sweep hay and poop out when he leaves. Claude is currently on a low dose of meloxidin (metacam) daily, and will likely need to continue this life-long (his adopter will be given a 4 week supply to get them started). This little guy has a lot to offer to a family that can understand his needs and make a few extra accommodations for him. Claude came to us last year from Saskatoon. Originally his good back leg had some splay to it as well, but that seems to have mostly corrected itself. It was believed that he could possibly need a leg amputation on his currently splayed leg, but he has shown us that it does not get him down. We did purchase a custom wheelchair for him last year, however he has never really used it, and gets along just fine (we will provide this to his adopter, in case its something that is needed down the road). He has had several rounds of xrays and check-ups, and while he may look a little different, he lives and acts like a normal bun (yes, he can even do binkies!) Claude will need to find a home with an experienced rabbit owner that fully understands and can meet all of his needs (both current, and ones that may arise down the road). This will include an exam every 6 months with your veterinarian to ensure that he and his leg(s) are still doing well. He will also require a home with no dogs or cats, as due to his special needs, a prey-driven animal in the home could be extra stressful for him. His adoption fee is $40.00. If you are interested in meeting Claude, please fill out the adoption application on our website: www.popcornsandbinkies.org Adoption fee includes: * Health check upon entering rescue; * Spay/neuter (unless advised by our veterinarian not to, due to age or health issues); * Educational information booklet, including a list of rabbit savvy vets in Winnipeg; * Ongoing access to our team for questions that may arise after adoption (for the life of the animal)
