Rufus is an African Sideneck Turtle (sometimes called the East African serrated mud turtle).  

African Sideneck Turtles are freshwater turtles. These reptiles are most active during the day time and have a lifespan of 25+ years! 

Contrary to popular belief not all turtles can fully withdraw their heads into their shells; the African Sideneck Turtle is an example of this and they simply turn their heads to the side and fold them under the upper edge of their shell; hence their name.

We will not consider adopters who do not submit an adoption application. Adoptive families are asked to pay for overnight shipping costs.  Shipping of our fosters is weather and temperature dependent.  We do NOT ship between T-giving and Christmas, no exceptions.

We do NOT charge a formal adoption fee, but, any donation remitted over the cost of shipping is very much appreciated...we are an all-volunteer organization, so all donations go directly to the care of our foster turtles and tortoises.
