BONDED MALES MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER!! Here is the write-up from their current owner who lives in Carpinteria, CA: Albert (the black pig) and Po (the white/grey pig) came to us about a month ago. One of our friends had a friend who had to find them a new home within 2 days, otherwise he was going to have to euthanize them (we were told it was in issue with his landlord that came up suddenly). We had an old 12x12 dog run set up already, so we said we would take them. We knew pretty much from the beginning that we could not provide a home for them forever, but they are so sweet, we just didn’t want to see them put down. The previous owner said he got each of them as piglets. If what he told us is accurate, Albert will be 2 years old this month, and Po is about 6 months younger than him. Other than the fact that they do seem young and active, I have no way to verify this. My best guess is that they each weigh around 200lbs, but I don’t have access to a scale big enough to confirm this. They are both definitely male, and we were told they were both neutered. They both love belly rubs, so it’s easy to get a good look and they do both appear to be neutered. Barring an undescended testicle situation that I don’t know about, they are neutered. We were told that the previous owner had always kept them outside in his backyard. We have also kept them in the backyard, so I don’t think they have had any experience as indoor pigs. They both seem very friendly with people, and love head scratches and belly rubs. They will flop over for rubs. I have only seen them get skittish around touching their feet, which also likely explains the current state of their hooves. We do have dogs, and they do not seem bothered by our dogs around their pen etc. We did let one of our small dogs in the pen and they were friendly, but aloof. We haven’t tried the bigger dogs, but that is because I do not trust our dogs to be friendly with the pigs. Even when they get skittish around their feet, I have not seen anything I would label as aggressive. They just get squirmy and run away when their feet are touched. Based on how relaxed and friendly they’ve been with us; I would imagine they are also okay with children. However, we don’t have any kids in our life, so I can’t say for sure one way or the other as far as kids go. As far as their health goes, they both seem happy and healthy to me other than their hooves. I don’t have any experience with pigs, so I am certainly no expert on health. The hooves seem long and uncomfortable, and are starting to crack at the top. I have been trying for the last month to find a vet/farrier, or really anyone that would help get their hooves trimmed. So far, I have completely struck out. I am still trying, but part of the reason I have reached out to rescues was in the hopes of finding them a place where vet care would be accessible. We would love to help with the cost of their initial vet care and hoof trim, and will get it done if I can find someone to do it. We live in Carpinteria, and we are committed to finding these guys a good spot. We got them here by loading them in some large dog crates we have, and tying them down in the back of our truck. This seemed to work fine, so as long as that is okay we are happy to transport them almost anywhere if it means getting them the care and home they deserve.
