Animal Profile: Gelato is an estimated 3-year-old, male Texas Brown Dog (possibly Shepherd/Cur mix) that is perfectly sized around 50 lbs. He is smart and affectionate but has some general anxiety and until recently was living in a very stressful environment. He is currently being fostered with another dog and a human who has been working on his training and building his confidence around new experiences. Gelato would thrive with a dedicated owner and a family without small kids. He could live with another balanced dog but also is okay as the only dog in the home. Gelato is house trained and crate trained! On leash, Gelato does really well with a little leadership but otherwise can be nervous/reactive meeting people and dogs. Hes doing better every day! He has previously lived with a cat without issue but does want to chase cats outside the house. Adopter Profile: Single family residence preferred Other dogs considered Cats considered No kids or older kids (past screaming age) Dog experience Adoption Info: Gelatos adoption fee is $500, which includes his neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, and microchip with lifetime registration. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. Animal History: Gelato was adopted as a puppy (distemper survivor) from Texas to the Pacific Northwest but at 3 years old they rehomed on Craigslist due to daily fights in the home with the resident dog, triggered by screaming children; luckily a good samaritan saw the listing and took him in, and is now fostering Gelato until an appropriate forever home can be found.
